Gold struck in the Buller!


Buller Mayor Garry Howard presented two woman their Gold Duke of Edinburgh's International Award - Aoteroa NZ Hillary Award yesterday at a ceremony in Westport.

Gold Award Recipients:

Huge congratulations goes to Annalese Hislop and Sarah McDonald who both achieved the Award's highest honours by showing dedication and commitment over many years, by improving a chosen Skill, giving voluntary Service to the community, improving health and well-being through Physical Recreation, completing a 5-day 4-night Gold Residential Project and training for and completing their own Gold Qualifying Adventure.

'Search The Way' Award Unit wishes to thank all of Annalese and Sarahs' community networks for their amazing help and support along the journey, including The Duke of Edinburgh's International Award - Aotearoa NZ Hillary Award, Mayor Garry Howard and the Buller District Council, Ministry of Youth Development, Buller REAP, Karamea Area School, Tai Poutini Polytechnic, BCDC, St John Youth, St Vincent de Paul Society, Solid Energy Centre, Rough and Tumble Bush Lodge, Utopia Retreat, Department of Conservation, Forest and Bird, Outdoor Training New Zealand, Outdoor Education New Zealand, Mountain Safety Council, all of Annalese and Sarahs' friends and whanau etc. (unfortunately time and space doesn't allow us to name everyone). Without such a great community support network the Awards would not be attainable for the participants - so thank you for all you do in the community.
