Golden Celebrations at Buckingham Palace

Search The Way was absolutely thrilled to hear from one of their outstanding participants, Ellie (Eleanor) Ross, that she had received a very special invitation from HRH The Duke of Edinburgh KG KT GVCO, who had requested her company to attend a celebration event for young people who have achieved a Gold Duke of Edinburgh's Award in Buckingham Palace Garden, on Friday 10th May 2024.

Ellie has shared with us that she had a wonderful time attending with her Mum, where they 'enjoyed the best day of the year so far - a beautiful, warm day. The Duke of Edinburgh hosted the event, with two bands playing, inspirational speakers, an opportunity to mingle, and a chance to walk around the gardens - it was all really special. They even got to enjoy a special cupcake and a cup of tea.'

Search The Way are very proud of Ellie's achievements, obtained by her demonstrating great perseverance and dedication over many years, so we know that she thoroughly deserves to be honoured in this way for being a Gold Award recipient. Ellie undertook the following activities to complete her Gold Award: For her Physical Recreation she excelled at Croquet, and has even played Golf Croquet for New Zealand; for her Skills section she sought to advance her abilities in playing the Saxophone, and excelled in practices and performances for her school jazz band; for her Service section she volunteered for her Croquet Club including developing a website and score keeping for a world event, fundraising for the local Lion's Club, and mentoring students at her school; for her Adventurous Journey section she completed a 10 Day Youth Development Leadership course on board the Spirit of New Zealand, sailing from Nelson to Lyttleton; and lastly she completed her Residential Project section at YHA Conwy, Wales where she, alongside a group of 7 others, completed work painting and gardening at this beautiful location.

Our hats go off to you Ellie - please accept our huge congratulations, and all the very best for each of the future steps that lay ahead for you. We encourage others to be inspired by Ellie's example, and get to discover more about yourself and take meaningful steps to reach your full potential in life, all whilst encouraging and supporting others along the way. Please contact Search The Way Award Unit to discover how to embark on your own Duke of Edinburgh's Award journey. #dukeofed
