The unprecedented flooding here in the Buller has certainly affected many in our region. It has been heartwarming to see friends, whanau, the wider community, numerous organisations, local and central government agencies all combine to support Buller residents at this time.
We just wanted to make sure that any present or past Search The Way Award Unit participants and their families were okay and receiving all the help and support they need at this time. The best place to keep in touch with updates and general advice is the Buller District Council webpage https://bullerdc.govt.nz/district-council/news/severe-weather-event-updates/ or via the Buller Emergency Management Facebook Page: https://www.facebook.com/BullerCD . In particular the post about 'What support is available and where to get help':
West Coast Civil Defence Emergency Management is coordinating assistance to communities affected by the Buller flooding event.
The South Island Severe Weather Event factsheet has information on what support is available and where you can get help. https://bullerdc.govt.nz/.../AoG-Factsheet-South-Island...
This includes information on: - Civil Defence Centres - Mental health support - Healthcare - Māori community/iwi support - Pacific support - Financial support - Returning home after a flood - Cleaning up after a flood - Insurance - Support for rural communities - Animal welfare
We also invite any past or present participants to please feel free to contact us at any stage.
As the wise whakataukī (Māori proverb) says 'Ehara taku toa i te toa takitahi engari he toa takitini' - It is not my strength alone, but the strength of many that contribute to my success. Together we can support each other to not only get through this challenge but to help each other rebuild an even better future. Kia kaha - Stay strong.
